Make your own teat balls

Jens Kristensen

When you feed your birds, it can also be exciting to make your own teat balls. Here is our suggestion how to do it:

Tit balls are a popular way to feed tit during the winter. They are easy to make and can be customized to your own preferences.

Ingredients:

  • 250 g melted fat, e.g. margarine, lard or palmin
  • 100 g sunflower seeds
  • 100 g hemp seeds
  • 100 g nuts, e.g. peanuts, walnuts or pecans
  • 100 g raisins
  • 100 g oatmeal

Course of action:

  1. Melt the fat in a saucepan over low heat.
  2. Add the other ingredients and mix well.
  3. Pour the mass into a form, e.g. a spring form and let it set in the fridge for at least 1 hour.
  4. Cut the teat balls into suitable pieces and hang them in trees or on automatic bird feeders.

Tips:

  • You can add other ingredients to the milk balls, e.g. fruit, vegetables or dried fruit.
  • You can also add spices, e.g. cinnamon, cardamom or ginger.
  • If you want to make tit balls for birds smaller than tit, make them smaller.

Storage:

Breast balls can be stored in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.

Security:

Be aware that teat balls can be dangerous for children and pets. Keep them out of the reach of children and pets.
